Become a member
Membership is open to jurist-translators, legal translators and students who meet the criteria of one of the association’s three categories.

Membership
Who can join
To become a member of ACJT–CALT, you must meet the criteria of one of the following categories.
- 01
Jurist-translator
- Holds an undergraduate degree in law and works in legal translation.
- 02
Legal translator
- Holds an undergraduate degree in translation and works in legal translation; or
- Holds an undergraduate degree in another field and has acquired two years of full-time experience in legal translation.
- 03
Student member
- Is registered in a university-level translation program in Canada;
- Is registered in a university-level law program in Canada; or
- Has graduated within the last two years from a university-level translation or law program in Canada.
Student members may participate in the activities of the association, provided they pay the fees set by the Board of Directors for this member category for a given activity. They do not have the right to vote and are not eligible to be directors. Student members are not included in the association’s directory of members.
All applications are subject to the Board of Directors’ approval.

Membership dues
Membership dues are $100 per calendar year for jurist-translators and legal translators, and $25 per calendar year for student members.

Payment methods
- Payment by PayPal, following the instructions on the membership form.
- Payment by cheque, payable to the Canadian Association of Legal Translators (CALT).

Complete the membership form
New applications and renewals are made using the association’s online forms.
- Step 2
Board review
All applications are subject to the Board of Directors’ approval.
- Step 3
Pay your dues
New applicants are asked to wait until they receive approval by the Board by email before paying their membership dues.
Design prototypeIn this design prototype, the membership application is represented visually only. No form is submitted, no account is created and no payment is processed. The final platform will host the association’s membership and renewal forms.
